Rest of April 2023
Rest of April 2023
Maybe whirlwind is putting things too strongly, but it’s been dreamy whatever it is. Elisabeth Collins’ memorial was a plethora of faces and hugs and reconnections with the loves of Tilly, Jessica, Josh, Barbara, the grandchildren, Penny, Paddy & Keir, Jan & Margit and many others. We had Gillie staying with us. Our one film so far while in the Midi has been Everything, Everywhere, All at Once at Penny’s. I probably enjoyed it more than anyone else. Not a great film but interesting but could have been edited much more than it was. I think that Cate Blanchett not winning the Oscar was purely woke politics.
We’ve had coffees and two meals with Natacha and Jonathan while they were here. Robin arrived the day after Gillie left – with Jessica finding her a ride to Nice at the last minute. James Pace came for lunch at Saint Marcs. And Richard and I on his birthday went to Aix-en-Provence with Joanne and Yvonne to see the Met’s transmission of Der Rosenkavalier. We did not get back to Joanne’s until after midnight, and after a dinner, champagne and cake we only got to bed around 04:00. Apart for the memorial and the birthday, we observed our nefastus fasting from the 5th to the 23rd. Still have not been able to locate the keys; the Golf is not useable at present and Petit Claude is in Morocco for three weeks; we’ve made some progress with Susie on the pool/basin; forgot my appointment at the bank but have since seen Mr. Rossi; and, though I have yet to receive a copy for myself, Matter Matters is out and some appear already to be reading it. For the rest, to be now at Tellus et les Étoiles is bliss, and Richard is finally able to walk – though still slowly – without pain.
