The fifteenth of June is a dies fissus or split day. The penus Vestae is closed, and when the sweepings from the aedes Vestae are ceremonially removed, the dies nefastus period comes to a close, and the days return to normal. We imagine that the tibia or sacred flutes were used to signal the end of the duration of cleansing and restriction. Henceforth, this period of normalcy is a ritualistic way of ignoring the end of the sun’s ascent.
